US presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand parties with drag queens in Illinois

Not to be outdone by Pete Buttigieg, US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is showing her love for the LGBT+ community, too.

Gillibrand, a senator from New York, partied with drag queen Vana B. Rosenberg at the Blazing Saddle gay bar in Des Moines, Illinois, on Friday (April 19).

Gillibrand even allowed Vana to try on her black cocktail dress.

“Vana and the amazing queens at the Blazing Saddle in Des Moines invited me for a visit tonight before their show. I felt underdressed, so I brought a dress I picked up yesterday—turns out it fit me, but it fit Vana even better! Thank you for having me, ladies!” Gillibrand wrote on Twitter.

Gillibrand, 52, shared some pictures of her getting ready with Vana.

On Instagram, Vana wrote: “LOVED hanging with this literal angel last night! Truly such a sweet heart, thank you for the Kiki.”

Kirsten Gillibrand fighting trans military ban

Gillibrand has been an outspoken opponent of President Donald Trump’s military ban for transgender troops, which came into effect on April 12.

On April 12, Gillibrand tweeted: “Our troops deserve a Commander in Chief who fights for them as fiercely as they fight for this country. President Trump’s transgender military ban, taking effect today, proves he fails that standard. As president I will end this.”

In February, Gillibrand filed a bill in Senate to try to block the trans ban, too.

Gillibrand said: “President Trump’s ban on transgender service members is discrimination, it undermines our military readiness, and it is an insult to the brave and patriotic transgender Americans who choose to serve in our military.

“The heads of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard have all testified to Congress that transgender service members are serving in our military without any problems. We should end this discriminatory ban for good and ensure our transgender service members can continue to do their jobs, serve with dignity, and protect our country.”
