Meet the polyamorous throuple with a married couple and their girlfriend

polyamorous throuple

Cathy and Thomas married five years ago and now have a girlfriend, Nicole, who has joined them to become a polyamorous throuple.

The throuple have been together for over a year and say polyamory has brought “fireworks” to their relationship.

How did the polyamorous relationship form?

“The way that it happened was that Nicole and I were friends beforehand,” Cathy Keen, 39, told PinkNews.

“We worked together and we just really got along.

“All the things that make the relationship successful as a throuple are all things that I noticed in her professionally—super laid back, really positive, natural diplomat, always tries to see the good in people.

“She was making my working life really good and I introduced her to Thomas—not thinking anything would happen at that point—whilst we were at an event one night.

“It was quite clear that they had a spark and the chemistry just kind of went from there.

“Me and Tom discussed it after.”

Thomas Keen, 33, added: “More of a plan than a discussion.”

When the throuple got together

Nicole Everett, 27, explained: “I knew what was happening—we went on a three-way date. At the last minute, Cathy dropped in: ‘Is it ok if Thomas comes along?’ I saw what she was doing and it worked.”

Thomas laughed: “Damn, I thought that was fail-proof.”

Cathy told PinkNews: “I didn’t want to make Nicole uncomfortable so I just tested the water. It was great, we went on a three-way date and I just really enjoyed it.

“I knew she had the same values and would never try to push an agenda that wasn’t what Thomas and I both wanted.

“It was just me falling in love with two people, rather than what the world sees as polyamory.”

“We’ve been together eight years and obviously we have a healthy relationship but your physical life changes over the course of time.

“Although it’s still good, it’s a different, more settled, stable kind of love.

“Whereas when someone new comes in it goes back to how it was when you met—fireworks, it’s crazy.”

Nicole added: “I came into this relationship as the third party and not once did I ever have a stigma about what a polyamorous relationship.

The stigma of being a polyamorous throuple

The throuple say they do face stigma for being polyamorous, with some people questioning their ability to be parents.

“We are polyamorous and we’re fairly normal people,” Thomas said, who has a son with Cathy.

Cathy is the community and events manager at dating app, Feeld, which welcomes polyamorous daters and says there is no one way to be poly.

She explained: “People come from all different backgrounds, different age groups.

“The only thing they have in common is that they’re all open-minded and able to confront things truthfully about their sexuality.”
