Ireland’s openly gay Taoiseach Leo Varadkar sent an enthusiastic letter to Kylie Minogue, it has been revealed.

Varadkar wrote to the Australian pop star ahead of her planned performance in Dublin on October 7 last year, Irish news site Extra.ie has reported.

The letter was reportedly released under a Freedom of Information request after Varadkar’s office twice blocked it from being revealed.

It read: “Dear Kylie, just wanted to drop you a short note in advance of the concert in Dublin.

“If you like, I’d love to welcome you to Ireland personally.”

“I am really looking forward to it. Am a huge fan!”

He continued: “I understand you are staying in the Merrion Hotel which is just across the street from my office in Government Buildings.

“If you like, I’d love to welcome you to Ireland personally.”

The Irish leader, who became the first openly gay Irish leader when he was elected in 2017, signed his message “Taoiseach” before adding “(Irish Prime Minister)”—seemingly just in case Minogue didn’t understand.

The concert in October was cancelled and rescheduled for December, when Varadkar was pictured posing with Minogue and his friends.

Leo Varadkar isn’t afraid of making a statement

Varadkar proved last month that he doesn’t hesitate when it comes to unashamedly living his truth.

The Taioseach took his partner Dr Matt Barrett along for a breakfast meeting with anti-LGBT US Vice President Mike Pence during his visit to Washington, DC.

Varadkar and Barrett met Pence at the vice president’s official residence, Number One Observatory Circle.

Barrett, who works as a cardiologist, does not frequently accompany Varadkar on foreign trips, but made an exception for the visit.

Speaking to the media, Varadkar said: “I stand here this morning as leader of my country, flawed and human, but judged by my political actions and not by my sexual orientation, my skin tone, my gender or religious beliefs.

“And I don’t believe my country is the only one in the world where this story is possible. It is found in every country where freedom and liberty are cherished.

“We are after all, all god’s children. That’s true of the United States as well, the land and home of the brave and free.”

Varadkar, who is one of the few openly gay world leaders, also thanked Pence for his “wonderful hospitality.”

He tweeted: “Vice President Mike Pence invited me and Matt to his home at the Naval Observatory this morning. It’s great to be back here for a really warm reception.”
