Lady Gaga credited her gay hairstylist, Frederic Aspiras, for inspiring her to write the popular Born This Way track “Hair.”

The pop star made the revelation in a lengthy and emotional speech at the annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards on Sunday (March 17), where Aspiras was being honoured.

She said that he inspired the track because he showed her how to love herself and how to be herself every day, according to Variety.

Lady Gaga: Frederic Aspiras is one of her ‘best friends in the whole world’

She also spoke about her close professional and personal relationship with the openly gay hairstylist, saying he is like the brother she never had and is one of her “best friends in the whole world.”

“We’ve worked together for over a decade and, although I have had the honour of working with many legends in this world of hair, for me, Freddie is beyond legendary,” Lady Gaga said.

“The genius of this man is simply unparalleled.”

She continued: “The genius of this man is simply unparalleled. No matter how big or small the occasion, whether it’s staying up all night before the Oscars because we’re both going, ‘Bitch, we didn’t come this far to go to the Oscars with a root, we gotta bleach it,’ or just for a night on the town.”

“My favourite is watching him cut [the wigs] with my music playing in the bathroom while he dances with the wig, imagining how it will move on stage. He’s always inventing without an ego.”

Lady Gaga said Frederic Aspiras has always been there for her

Lady Gaga also spoke about the development of their close relationship, which began 10 years ago when she rose to fame.

She said: “I’ve been through many highs and lows consistently throughout my career, and Freddie has been there for it all.

“We’ve always been there for each other, but what I really what to say, on the most personal level… is that that man sitting right there has picked me off the floor and told me I’m strong, and can persevere, more times than I could ever count.

“Freddie, you’d pick me up, and work your mastery on me, on my hair, and say, ‘Look at yourself. You are strong. You can do this.”

“If I was on the floor he was right there with me. And then, Freddie, you’d pick me up, and work your mastery on me, on my hair, and say, ‘Look at yourself. You are strong. You can do this. This is where you belong.’ And Freddie, I am here today to tell you that this is where you belong,” she concluded.

When Aspiras took to the stage, he was visibly emotional after Lady Gaga’s speech.

He then addressed the performer directly, and said: “You are, for everyone, but especially me, my inspiration for the past 10 years. And for that I am forever grateful, because we created such beautiful work together. You are my sister. You are my family.”

Last month, Lady Gaga won the Academy Award for best original song for “Shallow” from A Star Is Born.
