Pop star Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance at the engagement party of gay couple Alex Goldschmidt and Ross Girard.

The gay couple was celebrating their engagement with their loved ones at a party on Saturday (February 23) at the Sycamore Tavern in Los Angeles, California, when Goldschmidt announced the special performance.

““There was one secret I didn’t trust any of you with. There was a person who’s not here who sort of played a part in all of this and I would like to welcome, and if you could give a warm welcome, to my friend Taylor.”

Swift played an acoustic version of “King Of My Heart” from her latest album, Reputation.

“Alex emailed me and said he was going to do this and that there was a song that was really special for you two called ‘King Of My Heart’,” the star said before singing. She added: “This is from Alex, sung by me, but from Alex.”

“She came, she sang, I’m dead,” Goldschmidt wrote in a post sharing pictures of him and Girard with Swift.

Goldschmidt, who works for Digital Media Management, a company that helps celebrities manage their social media presence, and Swift appear to go way back—as his Facebook cover photo shows, he appeared in Swift’s 2014 video Shake It Off.

“I was surprised by a room filled with friends, family, and a serenade from Taylor Swift! Today is a day I will never forget.”

In sharing pictures and a video of the event on social media, Goldschmidt explained the song is particularly special to him as it was when he decided to propose to Girard.

“I decided to propose to Ross listening to this song in my car. I can’t thank Taylor enough for wanting to help make this day so special,” Goldschmidt wrote.

Girard wrote a post on Instagram thanking his fiancé for the special day: “Today, Alex popped the question and I said yes! Then I was surprised by a room filled with friends, family, and a serenade from Taylor Swift! Today is a day I will never forget. Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen, especially my love Alex.”

Other celebrities have helped their LGBT+ fans get engaged in recent years. Katy Perry helped a woman pop the question to her partner on National Coming Out Day in 2017, while Christina Aguilera, Kesha, Wolf Alice and Troye Sivan played their share of engagement-making magic last year.
