A new video has been released showing Taron Egerton starring as Elton John in upcoming film Rocketman—a biopic about the Candle in the Wind singer.

The latest sneak peak, released by Paramount Pictures on Monday (February 18), shows Welsh actor and singer Egerton recording John’s iconic song, “Tiny Dancer.”

The movie, named after John’s song “Rocket Man,” explores John’s life, from his time as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music, through to his enduring musical partnership with Bernie Taupin (played by Jamie Bell), and his global stardom.

It also follows John’s battle with depression, substance abuse, and him coming to terms with his sexuality as a gay man.

As well as acting, Egerton, who previously clarified that he is not gay amid speculation over his sexuality, will perform some of John’s classic films.

“It’s been the greatest joy of my professional life making this film.”

Egerton was eventually cast in the lead role in July 2017, while Dexter Fletcher was confirmed as director in April 2018.

Referring to Egerton in the video, Fletcher said: “He’s an actor of incredible range.”

Fletcher replaced Bryan Singer, who faces multiple sexual assault claims, as director of Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody in the final two weeks of filming. He is uncredited in the film because of the rules of the Directors Guild of America (DGA).

Egerton previously discussed a sex scene in Rocketman with Bodyguard actor Richard Madden, who plays John’s former lover and music manager John Reid

Rocketman also stars Bryce Dallas Howard as John’s mother Sheila Eileen, as well as Charlie Rowe and Gemma Jones.
