But I’m A Cheerleader

The queen of lesbian rom coms, But I’m A Cheerleader is so many people’s favourite.

Released in 1999, the lesbian movie’s main character Megan is played by Natasha Lyonne.

Megan is a teen who’s sent to rehab camp by her parents, and it’s there that she meets a lesbian called Graham.

Prior to this, Megan had had a boyfriend, despite rumours of her sexuality, but now in the company of Graham, she starts to get confused about her feelings. The movie is simply delightful and a definite must-watch.

Gray Matters

This lesbian rom com movie is excellent. It’s about a brother and sister, Sam and Gray, who are best friends.

Brother Sam has a delightful girlfriend who he quickly proposes to.

While everyone says it’s too soon, Gray can see why her brother fell for the woman so quickly.

Gray realises she’s a lesbian and the night before her brother and his partner are to wed, she makes her feelings known and kisses the bride-to-be.

Follow Gray’s journey in this movie as she comes out and lets her feelings be known.

Imagine Me & You

Staring the fabulous Lena Headey (Rachel) and Piper Perabo (Luce), this lesbian movie is about two women who fall for each.

During her wedding ceremony, Rachel (Piper Perabo) notices Luce (Lena Headey) in the audience and feels instantly drawn to her.

The movie starts with Rachel on her wedding day, when she marries Heck, portrayed by Matthew Goode.

The bride sees Luce, who is a lesbian, in the crowd and is instantly drawn to her. Soon, she starts questioning her sexuality as she forms a relationship with Luce.

Life Partners

Released in 2014, Life Partners is a rom com directed by Susanna Fogel and co-written with Joni Lefkowitz.

This heartwarming movie is about a 29-year-old lawyer, played by Gillian Jacobs, and her relationship with her lesbian best friend, played by Gossip Girl‘s Leighton Meester.

The pair is extremely close but their bond is tested after one falls in love with a man.

Nina’s Heavenly Delights

Openly lesbian filmmaker Pratibha Parmar introduced this delightful rom com, Nina’s Heavenly Delights.

The movie is all about coming out mixed with Indian traditions and comic humour. It follows the life of Indian-Scottish lesbian character Nina Shah who is yet to come out to her family.

Nina’s father passes away so she returns to Scotland, and she soon discovers that their family restaurant, the New Taj, is being sold as her father had bet away half of its ownership.

Businesswoman Lisa owns the other half of the restaurant, and to make things more complicated, Nina, the closeted lesbian, falls madly in love with her.

Happiest Season

Okay… this movie hasn’t actually come out yet but so we’re excited about it that we had to top off our list by giving it a mention.

Once it’s released, we can only hope it’s as great as it sounds, and hopefully it will become among the best rom coms for lesbians.

Happiest Season is a new lesbian Christmas rom com, starring Kristen Stewart, who came out in 2015.

The film was written and directed by openly lesbian star Clea DuVall and her writing partner Mary Holland, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie is about a young woman who plans to propose to her lesbian partner during a family Christmas party. However, there is one problem. Her girlfriend has not yet come out to her conservative parents.
