Timothee Chalamet gives $1,000 to LGBT centre at Golden Globes

Timothee Chalamet has added to his growing reputation as a queer fan favourite by giving $1,000 to New York’s LGBT Community Centre live on the Golden Globes red carpet.
The Call Me By Your Name actor was told during an interview at the Golden Globes on Sunday (January 6) that champagne company Moët “will give $1,000 to the charity of your choice.”
Chalamet asked: “Are you serious?” before following the Moët representative’s instructions and looking straight into the camera to say, without hesitation: “LGBTQ centre in New York.”

The red carpet reporter for Entertainment Tonight told him: “Good for you!” to which the actor, who was nominated for best supporting actor for his work in Beautiful Boy, responded: “Sweet, thank you.”
A tweet with a clip of Chalamet’s instant decision to give the donation to New York’s LGBT Community Centre has gone viral.
The post, tweeted along with the caption “he said that so fast ugh his mind,” has attracted around 20,000 retweets and likes.
Timothee Chalamet has a history of supporting pro-LGBT causes
Last year, Chalamet vowed to donate the entire fee for his part in Woody Allen’s movie A Rainy Day in New York to charities including New York’s LGBT Community Centre.
The star, whose performance alongside Armie Hammer earned him an Oscar nomination for best actor, also promised to give parts of his salary to anti-sexual harassment organisation Time’s Up and sexual abuse charity RAINN.

He said he took the step because he didn’t want to “profit” from working with Allen, whose adopted daughter Dylan Farrow has accused the Annie Hall director of sexually assaulting her when she was seven.
On Instagram, he wrote: “This year has changed the way I see and feel about so many things; it has been a thrilling and, at times, enlightening education.
“I want to be worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the brave artists who are fighting for all people to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve”

“I have, to this point, chosen projects from the perspective of a young actor trying to walk in the footsteps of more seasoned actors I admire.
“But I am learning that a good role isn’t the only criteria for accepting a job,” the Ladybird star added.
The actor added that his move was part of an intention to “be worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the brave artists who are fighting for all people to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.”
