Porn star Blake Mitchell says he faces discrimination for being bisexual

Porn star Blake Mitchell, who works in the gay porn industry, has opened up in a YouTube video about his experiences as a bisexual man.
Mitchell said in the video that being bisexual is still “somewhat controversial in the world that we live in” but that it is becoming less so.
“I see more and more guys and girls openly identifying as bisexual because previously, especially in the LGBT community, it has been before that the ‘B’ is silent. And it’s like ‘yeah you’re part of the LGBT [community], but only halfway.’
“It’s very difficult sometimes to get people to actually recognise and accept, truly and honestly, that I’m bisexual.”

“I often felt in the past that if I was dating a guy, then my LGBT card was a little stronger, or people viewed that as more legitimate, and whenever I was dating a girl it was just instantly like ‘oh so you’re straight now’. It was like, well, no, I understand that maybe it works like that for some people but that’s not how it works for me.”
Anti-bisexual sentiment within the LGBT+ community
Mitchell also said that some of the discrimination he faces is from within the LGBT+ community.
“There are people who are like, ‘Oh yeah, I accept the fact that you’re bisexual,’ but… you can just tell that straight people think you’re actually just straight and gay people think you’re actually just gay. It seems like it’s very difficult sometimes to get people to actually recognise and accept, truly and honestly, that I’m bisexual.
“It’s very interesting to hear gay people do that, because when they say it, and they sometimes don’t say it straight to my face, it sounds exactly like what straight people say when they say they can’t understand homosexuality.
“They’re just like, ‘I don’t get it, I just can’t comprehend it.’ And I’m like, ‘Well, that’s what straight people say, so that’s what you sound like when you say that by the way.’
“If you don’t get it, ask questions. And ask questions from a place of wanting to learn more, not a place of trying to pick someone apart.”
Blake Mitchell only does gay porn for a reason
He also explained why he only does gay porn, saying that he doesn’t want to be associated with the straight porn industry, which he described as “seedy.”
“I choose to do gay porn instead of straight porn because there’s more money to be made as a male performer in gay porn than there is in straight porn.
“The gay industry can be seedy too but pretty much all of the straight industry, it seems very seedy from the other performers that I’ve talked to.”

“I’d still consider doing straight porn and I may in the future, but I also just didn’t want to be a part of the straight industry in a lot of ways because of how it can be operated sometimes. The gay industry can be seedy too but pretty much all of the straight industry, it seems very seedy from the other performers that I’ve talked to.”
However, Mitchell also said that the straight industry is “getting better.”
Blake Mitchell has also opened up about loneliness
Mitchell uploads videos to his own YouTube channel where he talks about a variety of issues.
In July, he uploaded a video called ‘I’m lonely ☹’ where he talked about the difficulty of juggling dating and being a gay porn star.

In the video, Mitchell said that being a gay porn star was a “unique kind of fame” that comes at its own special price.”
“I’ve been out to the bars before and people will say things to me that, because I am a sex worker, they think it is acceptable to say to a total stranger,” he said. “Besides making me uncomfortable, if I am with someone who I am interested in, this can be a little embarrassing.”
He also said dating while being a gay porn star was a “one-way open relationship” and he doesn’t think it fair to ask a partner to deal with such a set up.
However, earlier this month, Mitchell revealed that he now has a boyfriend, and introduced him to the world in a YouTube video.
