Halsey slams anti-gay The Voice viewer who called her ‘disgusting’
Halsey has savaged a viewer who called her same-sex dance performance of “Without Me” on The Voice final “disgusting.”
After the 24-year-old US singer entertained fans of the show on Tuesday (December 18), a member of the public watching The Voice, Teri Burton, tweeted a picture of Halsey being embraced by dancer Jade Chynoweth with the message: “Disgusting. Done with the voice after this BS.”
And the “Bad At Love” singer had a message for all the other haters who objected to her dancing with another woman, writing: “Very proud of the emotional performance I did with @JadeChynoweth on @NBCTheVoice tonight.
“And also very proud to have pissed off the homophobic viewers at home who missed the message. Thanks for watching. ”
She added: “Representation matters. Thanks @NBCTheVoice for giving a space for this vision to come to life. and thank you @JadeChynoweth for being an incredible human who used her body like the ultimate instrument for this collaboration.”
Teri Burton reacts to Halsey
During and after the rest of The Voice final—which was won by 16-year-old Chevel Shepherd, who was coached by Kelly Clarkson—Burton responded to Halsey and others.
Writing directly to the singer, she tweeted: “I’m not the least bit homophobic but your ‘performance’ was absolutely not appropriate for television.”
Burton then told another fan: “Her performance was not appropriate for a show that caters to families and children. I don’t give a rats ass whether she’s gay, straight, bi, whatever.”

And in response to Georgia Jones, a porn star who told her she was being homophobic and wished her a Christmas that was “joyful & full of hugs that make you uncomfortable, she said: “I am not homophobic.”
“Love is love, baby. Rock on.”
She added: “I hug all my friends, and my holidays are full of joy with the true meaning of Christmas.”
The best response to Burton though—apart from Halsey’s—came from a tweeter called Carter who wrote: “I have some news about the Olympics” above a picture of Canadian Olympic figure skating champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir getting close during a competition.
Halsey quote-tweeted the post, writing above: “This made me choke in laughter. love is love, baby. And jade, the dancer accompanying me is as much of an athlete as these two rock on.”
