Before coming out publicly as bisexual on The Bi Life, Ryan Cleary realised he fancied guys “when I hit puberty” but didn’t come out to anyone for several years.

Being in the closet and not having anyone to talk to left him feeling “really depressed” until he had a conversation with his mum.

“Whatever it is that you feel you are, it’s important that you do express that because life is short.”

Michael Gunning came out publicly on The Bi Life—first as bisexual—and later in the show realised he is gay.

Being a professional swimmer meant he rarely had time for dating or relationships until he flew out to Barcelona to appear on The Bi Life with a group of bisexual men and women.

After going on a few dates, he realised he was in fact gay.

We asked: What’s your advice for coming out as bisexual or gay?

The Bi Life‘s Ryan Cleary told PinkNews: “You don’t want to look back on your life and be like I lived for what I thought certain people in society wanted.

“People DM me and I give them advice. They ask: ‘Oh, what about the bad reactions? Have you had any?’

“It’s just [about] making people realise ok, I’m not alone and I can do this.”

“I hear people’s worries and I don’t want people to feel like that because it’s that’s not a life to live.

“If it’s safe for you to come out then I would definitely advise you to do so—just to a friend, to a family member, and then to take it from there.

“Whatever it is that you feel you are, it’s important that you do express that because life is short.”

Michael Gunning agreed: “It’s just [about] making people realise ok, I’m not alone and I can do this.”
