Cher announces new biopic and memoir

Legendary pop star Cher has confirmed that she is working on a memoir, slated for release in 2020, with a biopic to follow.
The “Believe” singer made the surprise announcement on Twitter, and fans rejoiced. The tweet has been liked or retweeted over 14,000 times in just 12 hours.
Cher has not yet announced any further details about the biopic, however, she confirmed that one is in the works. As of yet, the cast and release date of the biopic have not been announced.
Cher’s announcement comes after a busy year for the gay icon. Earlier this year, she had a starring role in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again She starred as Ruby Sheridan in the film, the mother of Meryl Streep’s character, Donna.
Cher: Dancing Queen
Shortly afterwards, Cher announced that she was working on an album of ABBA covers. The album – called Dancing Queen – was released in September.
She will be touring the UK in 2019, performing in Britain for the first time in over a decade.
Cher has long been regarded as an LGBT+ icon, and revealed in July that she began “copying” gay men after meeting two when she was 12.
“I came home from school and there were these two guys in our living room,” she said.
“They were talking to my mom and her best friend, and they were so happy and excited about everything they were talking about, so animated.”
Cher said she began copying gay men from an early age, adding: “I thought, ‘These guys are much more fun than the regular men that come over to visit.’
“And I didn’t know that they were gay, but I just thought ‘These guys are great,’ and it all started from then.”
Transgender son, Chaz Bono
Cher has also spoken about her relationship with her transgender son, Chaz Bono.
The star said in October that she struggled when her son told her that he was trans, and that she also struggled when Chaz said he was a lesbian before he transitioned.
She told PrideSource it was not “easy” for her to deal with her child coming out.
She said: “I didn’t go through it that easily. Both times. When I found out Chaz was gay, I didn’t go through it that easily.
“When I found out Chaz was [transitioning]… we talked about it a lot, actually. But then Chaz didn’t mention it anymore, so I kind of forgot. And what I think is, there’s such a fear of losing the child you love, and what will replace that child.”
She added: “I think it’s about the fear, mostly. I felt, who will this new person be? Because I know who the person is now, but who will the new person be and how will it work and will I have lost somebody?”
Cher has reconciled with Chaz in recent years, saying: “Chaz is so happy now and we get along better than ever.”
Cher’s biopic and her cinema history
The star – whose real name is Cherilyn Sarkisian – is now 72 years old and has been active in the music industry since the early 1960s.
In the 1980s, Cher started to develop a film career, and went on to star in Silkwood alongside Meryl Streep, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.
She went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Moonstruck.
