Eight former contestants on RuPaul’s Drag Race are set to be re-united in for a Christmas special.
VH1 announced the RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular on Thursday (November 1), which will see eight queens would compete for the title of America’s first “Drag Race Xmas Queen.”
The show will bring back eight fan favourites: Eureka O’Hara, Jasmine Masters, Kim Chi, Latrice Royale, Mayhem Miller, Shangela, Sonique, and Trixie Mattel. It will air on Friday December 7.
According to a VH1 press release, the queens will come back for “extraordinary holiday-themed episode filled with jaw-dropping surprises, eye-popping fashions, and epic performances choreographed by Todrick Hall.”
The show will feature dancing and lip-syncing to RuPaul’s seasonal albums Slay Belles and Christmas Party.
The cast will also include judges RuPaul, Michelle Visage, and Siedah Garrett.
“Nothing says Christmas like ‘Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, and drag queens slipping on their pantyhose,’” said host RuPaul in a press release.
She added: “This VH1 holiday extravaganza is my way of saying thank you to my ‘Drag Race’ family by spreading a little bit of love, laughter and light across the country and around the world.”
In 2015, cast members were re-united for a non-competitive Christmas special, called RuPaul’s Drag Race: Green Screen Christmas, which was aired as part of the promotion for RuPaul’s album Slay Belles.
Ex-contestants on the 2015 episode included Alyssa Edwards, Laganja Estranja, Latrice Royale, Raja, and Shangela.
In September, RuPaul’s Drag Race picked up five Emmy Awards in an unprecedented night of success for the show.
The iconic programme took home the Outstanding Reality Show honour for the first time ever, breaking The Voice and The Amazing Race‘s seven-year stranglehold on the trophy.
The show also won the Outstanding Host for Reality Programme award for the third time in a row.
In June, RuPaul’s Drag Race was renewed for an eleventh season.
