Will Fallout 76 require a PS Plus subscription?
Fallout 76‘s PS Plus subscription requirements are being hotly debated amongst gamers keen to prepare for the new Bethesda Game Studios release.
2018 has been a good year for marquee gaming releases. In October alone, we’ve already seen the release of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and the much-anticipated return of Rockstar Games is yet to come with the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 next week.
In November, the trend will continue with the release of Fallout 76: the latest instalment in everyone’s favourite post-apocalyptic RPG.
This time around, gamers will get to enjoy a glimpse into the Fallout series’s past as Fallout 76 is a narrative prequel to the events depicted in previous games.
However, with anticipation rising, some fans of the game are unsure whether they will require PS Plus in order to play the game on PlayStation 4.
Will Fallout 76 require PS Plus?
Because Fallout 76 is an online multiplayer game, there was uncertainty as to whether a subscription to Sony’s online PS Plus service would be required. (Previous instalments have always been single player, with some online multiplayer elements).
That was cleared up back in June, however, with one gamer putting the question directly to Playstation themselves:
Hi Thomas. PS Plus subscription is required to play online. Check more info here: https://t.co/YQzzpf43yr

So there you have it: a PS Plus account is definitively required to play the online-only game. A year’s subscription to PlayStation Plus costs £49.99.
You won’t have to play it alongside other people if you’d prefer not to, however, since the game can still be played online individually.
Is Xbox Live Gold required for Fallout 76?
The same question applies for Xbox users who want to know whether they’ll need an online subscription for the new game.
The answer is also yes: the game is online-only and therefore won’t be playable without an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
At present, a year’s subscription to Xbox Live Gold costs £39.99 from the Microsoft store.
