When is Luigi’s Mansion 3DS coming out and is it a remake?

Luigi’s Mansion launched the Nintendo GameCube back in 2001 and now a whole new generation will get to enjoy it on the Nintendo 3DS.

With its innovative gameplay and careful attention to smaller details, such as the sound design and score, Luigi’s Mansion garnered well-earned praise from gamers and critics alike.

The simple story of Mario’s brother fighting his way through a mansion’s worth of spooky bad guys – in what was his first ever solo adventure – became one of the best-selling titles of the year.

Now, nostalgic fans who traded in their GameCube years ago will get a chance to revisit the Nintendo classic, but when exactly is it released and will there be anything new for those who completed the game when it first came out?

The game is slated for release on October 19. It is currently available for pre-order, with a discounted Luigi Cap or Boo Lamp being thrown into pre-order bundles for eager ghost chasers.

This is not to be confused with the release of Luigi’s Mansion 3 for the Nintendo Switch, a game which is currently still in development and is planned for release in 2019.

is luigi’s mansion 3ds a remake?

In the sense that the game has been updated and enhanced for the 3DS, with improved graphics and game design elements, it is indeed a remake. (The same team who remade Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask as well as other Legend of Zelda titles for the 3DS – Grezzo – are also behind this updated version.)

The game itself will remain relatively faithful to the original, however, with a couple of major new additions. A co-operative multiplayer mode, similar to that featured in the 3DS-exclusive Luigi’s Mansion 2, will be included and the revamped game will also be compatible with Nintendo’s amiibo figures for those who like to collect the decorative figurines.
