Is there a Harry Potter RPG and when does it come out?

Fans of J.K. Rowling’s much-loved wizard hero are enjoying some big Harry Potter-related surprises.

First, PinkNews drew attention to comments by David Yates – director of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – who said in an interview with Empire that the latest film in the Potter prequel series would make Albus Dumbledore’s sexuality “clear.”

The new instalment, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, is slated for release in November 2018 and fans of the Hogwarts universe will get to see more of the franchise’s backstory brought to life on screen.

But that’s not all. On Tuesday, footage also leaked online of what appears to be a Harry Potter role playing game currently in development.

Since fans have been calling out for just such a game, it comes as an exciting development.

Is there a Harry Potter RPG?

If the leaked footage proves legitimate, it appears that the answer is yes. The rights to the franchise are owned by Warner Bros., the studio also responsible for the popular film adaptations. In January of last year, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment acquired Avalanche Software and rumours circulated online that a Harry Potter game was in the offing.

The footage which has been posted online allegedly comes from a trailer played to participants in mall survey. This is all according to a user on Reddit who backed up the footage with claims they were able to sneak a phone into the survey and secretly film it.

When will the Harry Potter RPG be released?

There is no clear information just yet as to when the title might be released. If the footage is legitimate, it suggests a game which is fairly far along the development process. However, it’s not possible to know whether this leak will move the release date forward or only delay it further.
