China’s new media centre looks like a giant penis

A new media centre in China has been mocked on social media—for looking like an enormous penis and testicles.

The Guangxi New Media Centre in Guangxi, south-east China, has been under construction for around two years and is nearing completion.

And one prankster was so amused by the design that they created a video of the illuminated tower, photoshopping in special effects including love-shaped fireworks coming out of the tip of the building as it is lit up in a number of pulsating colours.

The footage, reportedly posted on popular Chinese video platform Douyin, has since gone viral.

Olaf Falafel, a comedian, posted the video of the tower on Twitter, adding the caption: “‘I do like it but don’t you think perhaps it’s a little … you know… a little bit too penisy?’

“Architect: ‘Don’t worry, there’ll be so many fireworks and lights on the launch night, nobody will ever notice.'”

Another social media user said: “This is what happens when there are way more men than women in a country#PenisTower.”

One Twitter user posted: “Concerns have been raised about the Guangxi New Media Center… surely an official organ of the Chinese state.”

And one person joked: ” If you build it, they will come.”

A spokesperson from the Guangxi New Media Centre has confirmed that the 14-second viral clip is fake.

“We turned on the lights on the façade of the building and it showed the image of a moon. Some (web users) photo-shopped extra lights, others photo-shopped fireworks and fountains onto it. All sorts of things,” a spokesperson told Chinese video site Pear Video, according to MailOnline.

The design of the building was reportedly inspired by rice terraces in the autonomous region.
