How to listen to Cher’s Dancing Queen

Cher album Dancing Queen

Cher can dance, Cher can jive, Cher can have the time of her life.

If you watched Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again over the summer, then you know that the music legend (and Oscar, Emmy and Grammy winner) Cher made an appearance as a badass glamorous grandma.

Cher, the queen of reinvention who has managed to have a hit song in every decade since the 1960s, is back at it again with an ABBA cover album called Dancing Queen.

And rejoice my friends, for the star’s album is released on Friday, September 28, and will be available on CD and streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music.

The album promises all of ABBA’s greatest tunes with a Cher twist, from “SOS” to “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight).

The singer has already released some songs from the album ahead of the release.

Soon after the movie hit cinemas, Cher unveiled a rendition of “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” and followed up with “SOS.”

“Fernando,” which features on the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again soundtrack was also released previously.

Trans-positive

The music video for “SOS” features an all-woman cast who first appear alone and then unite to support each other. It also features trans actress Trace Lysette.

Cher has long been a fierce defender of her son Chaz Bono, who is a transgender man.

The star has also previously tweeted that she is “ashamed” of feminists who exclude transgender women.

A long-awaited comeback

Dancing Queen will be Cher’s first full album since 2013’s Closer to the Truth, which spawned singles “Woman’s World” and “I Hope You Find It.”

Talking ABBA, the star said she had always been a fan of the band, and was inspired by the movie.

“I’ve always liked ABBA and saw the original Mamma Mia musical on Broadway three times.

“After filming Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, I was reminded again of what great and timeless songs they wrote and started thinking, ‘Why not do an album of their music?’”

And the artist made cher (get it?) to bring her own twist to the iconic tracks.

“The songs were harder to sing than I imagined but I’m so happy with how the music came out. I’m really excited for people to hear it. It’s a perfect time,” she said.
