Is Dr Ranj gay? Strictly Come Dancing star on sexuality and marrying a woman

Is there a doctor in the house? On Strictly Come Dancing this series, there certainly is.

This Morning‘s Dr Ranj Singh joins the cast of Strictly series 16, which begins its live shows on Saturday, September 22.

Dr Ranj is just one of the celebs getting their dancing shoes on—joining documentary presenter Stacey Dooley, Blue singer Lee Ryan, TV presenter and activist Katie Piper and Steps singer Faye Tozer.

Here’s what you need to know about Dr Ranj.

Is Dr Ranj gay?

Yes, Dr Ranj is openly gay. In fact, he wanted to dance with a same-sex partner on Strictly.

“I would love to dance with a same-sex partner,” he told the Mirror.

“I would value a time when same sex couples could dance on shows like Strictly. It is incredibly important.

“We are making progress but I think there is still some way to go. It does take time, though we are heading in the right direction.”

Who is Dr Ranj’s dance partner?

Dr Ranj won’t be dancing with a same-sex partner unfortunately.

He is paired up with Strictly veteran Janette Manrara, who has previously danced with Peter Andre, Aston Merrygold, Melvin Odoom and Julien Macdonald.

Manrara placed fifth on Strictly in 2014 when she partnered with EastEnders actor Jake Wood.

Is Dr Ranj married?

Not currently, but the This Morning medical expert has opened up about how he was once married to a woman.

Dr Ranj told the Mirror how he came out as gay to his wife of five years in his early 20s.

“I accepted that it wasn’t right and it had to end,” he said.

“It was so hard and I still don’t like thinking about it. I felt like my heart had been wrenched out of my chest.

“I was completely broken. It was the lowest point in my life. I can only imagine how hard it was for my wife, though – she didn’t deserve any of that. I feel so incredibly sorry for what she had to go through.”
