RuPaul’s Drag Race has picked up five Emmy Awards in an unprecedented night of success for the show.

The iconic programme took home the Outstanding Reality Show honour for the first time ever, breaking The Voice and The Amazing Race‘s seven-year stranglehold on the trophy.

RuPaul, who this year became the first drag artist to be given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, also won the Outstanding Host for Reality Programme award for the third time in a row.

“This is so lovely. Thank you so much,” RuPaul told the audience at the 70th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday.

“Thank you to the Academy, this is so lovely.

“We are so happy to present this show. I would like to thank [you] on behalf of the 140 drag queens we have released into the wild,” he added, prompting laughter from the audience.

But this reaction was nothing compared to the response when he delved into the Drag Race phrasebook.

After thanking his crew, he also dedicated the trophy to “all of the dreamers out there.”

“Listen, if you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else? Can I get an amen up in here?” he said.

“Now let the music play!”

This year, the groundbreaking show featured the first ever transgender member of the Pit Crew.

And RuPaul also aimed shots at President Donald Trump’s administration during Season 10’s live finale.

He told viewers: “Here in the House of RuPaul, everybody is welcome. There ain’t no walls here to divide us. There’s only love.

“Now, let’s say it loud enough that they can hear us in Washington DC. Everybody say love!”

The host added: “Now drive that down Pennsylvania Avenue and get your ass outta here!”

The show also included footage of Drag Race fans holding ‘Sashay Away Trump’ and ‘Lock Him Up’ signs at a Pride event during a montage.
