Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina features a pansexual warlock

Netflix’s much-anticipated Chilling Adventures of Sabrina includes a pansexual character.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is one of the streaming giant’s hotly-anticipated shows of the year, delving into the world of Sabrina Spellman in a darker reboot based on the Archie Comics character.

Images released on Monday (September 17) gave a first look at the characters, including Sabrina’s pansexual cousin Ambrose Spellman.

A character bio says: “Ambrose Spellman (Chance Perdomo) is Sabrina’s warlock cousin from England.

“Placed under house-arrest by the Witches Council, Ambrose is forbidden from leaving the funeral home where he lives with the Spellman woman.

“Witty, puckish, and pan-sexual, he is one of Sabrina’s partners in crime, always up for mischief.”

The role is played by Chance Perdomo, who is billed as a series regular on the show.

The actor wrote on Instagram: “Ambrose Spellman; think bastardised magical love-child of David Bowie & Jimmy Hendrix….think penchant for mischief à la Loki.”

Kiernan Shipka leads the cast as Sabrina Spellman.

Her character bio states: “An empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch, Sabrina is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High.

“Intelligent, compassionate and brave to the point of recklessness, Sabrina is all that stands between us and the forces of darkness that threaten our world.”

The show is not a direct remake of the Sabrina the Teenage Witch sitcom starring Melissa Joan Hart, which ran from 1996 until 2003.

In the TV show, Sabrina finds out about her magical powers at her 16th birthday, which was a removal from the original comic series in which Sabrina was aware she was different from a very young age. Sabrina juggles her school life with her home life, where she lives with her 500-year-old witch aunts Hilda and Zelda, and magic talking cat Salem.

It’s not the only queer witch news of the week. A Discovery of Witches, which recently debuted in the UK, included a lesbian witch couple for everyone to root for.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina debuts on Netflix on October 26.
