Watch: Emma Stone and Olivia Colman as lesbian lovers in The Favourite trailer
The first UK trailer for upcoming royal lesbian film The Favourite—starring Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz—has been released.
Set in early 18th century England, the film reimagines the behind-the-scenes politics at the start of the reign of Queen Anne (Colman).
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, it shows two cousins—Sarah Churchill (Weisz) and Abigail Masham (Stone)—battling it out to be the queen’s favourite.

The comedy drama has been tipped to include the queen at the top of a lesbian love triangle, also made up of Churchill and Masham.
And, speaking at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday (August 30), where the film made its international premiere, Colman said she enjoyed her intimate on camera moments with Stone.
Colman, who is set to star in Netflix’s third and fourth seasons of The Crown as Queen Elizabeth II, said: “It’s as though we think we invented sex, but we didn’t, it’s been going on for quite a long time,” according to Reuters.
“And it was awfully fun having sex with Emma Stone,” added the Golden Globe-winning actor.
“It was really fun having sex with you too,” responded Stone.
The Favourite is due to be released on November 23 in the US and January 1 2019 in the UK.

Weisz, meanwhile, recently starred in another film with a lesbian storyline, Disobedience, which was released in the US in April and is set to be put out in the UK on November 30.
In May, Weisz opened up about filming a sex scene with Rachel McAdams in the new movie, which portrays a forbidden romance between two Jewish women.
Speaking to the Mirror, Weisz defended the choice to include the scene in the movie, describing the moment as “beautiful.”
“Usually there’s little point to sex scenes, but in our story it’s a love scene that’s about freedom,” said Weisz.
Of her experience working with McAdams, she added: “I’ve never been in a film before where I had so many scenes with another woman and where I was able to connect to a female character in such a close way.”
