LGBT+ festival calls on queer artists and activists in London to get involved

LGBT+ arts festival GFEST is calling on artists and queer community groups to get involved in this year’s festival.

Made up of a series of LGBT+ arts events, GFEST takes place annually across London.

This year’s theme is Socially Equal and invites LGBT+ filmmakers, artists, comedians and local activists to apply to host events, perform or display their art.

Artistic director Niranjan Kamatkar told PinkNews: “It’s London’s LGBTQI cross-arts festival and it’s recognised as hugely diverse and having great BAME inclusion.

“We’re asking artists, organisers, smaller LGBTQI groups, to join us and present their own LGBTQI art events as part of GFEST.

“The theme this year is Socially Equal, asking: are we socially equal in 2018?

“It’s a kind of fallacy that we have achieved full equality – we have achieved a number of legal equalities but in certain areas we are lagging behind.

“If cultural events like GFEST can’t address inequality, what will? The onus lies on LGBTQI artists to take this fight forward and celebrate LGBTQI culture.

GFEST takes place this November

“So we’re inviting artists, organisers, smaller groups, libraries, local museums to help us present the festival across lots of events around London.”

Organised by charity Wise Thoughts, GFEST is set to take place between 12 and 24 November, 2018.
