This historic dating show will focus exclusively on bisexual people

Courtney Act is set to host a groundbreaking dating show which only includes participants who are bisexual, pansexual or questioning.

The Bi Life, which is currently being shot in Barcelona and premieres in October on E!, will see the cast of 10 living and partying together as they explore queer dating and their identities – some for the first time.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner, who earlier this month made an 11-year-old drag superfan’s dreams come true, said the show was a crucial step in highlighting bisexual people.

Act, who has spoken to PinkNews about being pansexual and genderfluid, said: “It’s high time there was a dating show for the large number of young people today, like me, who are attracted to more than one gender.

“In 2018 we know that sexuality is fluid and sharing the stories and experiences, the laughter and the lovemaking, of young bi people is so important,” continued the RuPaul’s Drag Race runner-up, whose real name is Shane Jenek.

“So get ready to see the true stories of bisexual singles, who are the largest part of the LGBTQ+ community, but the least known.”

The show follows hot on the heels of MTV’s True Love or True Lies, which debuted this summer and featured multiple same-sex couples – both real and fake.

Unlike Love Island, both programmes include multiple LGBT+ contestants.

Ros Coward, executive producer for Monkey, which has also created Made In Chelsea, said that the landmark programme, which will be made up of 10 hour-long episodes, had been a long time coming.

“A TV show that better reflects diversity within society’s dating pool has been long overdue,” he said.

The Bi Life is a modern dating show for a modern generation of daters.”

Lee Raftery, who is NBCUniversal International’s chief marketing officer, said: “With the number of British people identifying themselves as bisexual rising by 73% in four years, we are incredibly excited to be introducing this pioneering series to our audiences in the UK and Ireland.”

Earlier this month, gay couple True Love or True Lies Chris and Jon told PinkNews that they were “glad” to be voted off the show.

They spoke about how they wanted to help normalise gay couples, particularly in Northern Ireland, which is the only part of the UK where same-sex marriage is still illegal despite having the support of two-thirds of people.

The day after they got engaged in June, thousands of people took to the streets of Belfast to march for marriage equality in Northern Ireland.

But the pair is currently planning on holding the wedding in the Republic of Ireland – and fellow True Love or True Lies contestants Jack and Luke are invited, despite it being revealed that one of them isn’t gay.
