Riverdale’s deleted scenes reveal much more about show’s bisexual relationship

Previously unseen footage of Riverdale‘s bisexual couple has revealed hidden depths to their relationship – and fans are thrilled.

Madelaine Petsch’s Cheryl Blossom came out as bisexual last season on the dark CW and Netflix show about Archie Comics characters.

In an emotional scene with prominent bisexual lighting, Cheryl opened up about her sexuality to Toni Topaz, who also came out as bi earlier in the season.

She then nearly kissed Toni – played by her real-life friend and co-star Vanessa Morgan – in the next episode, before being sent to undergo gay ‘cure’ therapy.

Toni broke her out of the creepy Sisters of Quiet Mercy nunnery in the very next episode – but not after the couple enjoyed a first proper kiss, which Petsch has admitted was “very nerve-racking.”

And it turns out that the pair kissed more than that – but it was erased from the show in post-production.

In one of the six deleted scenes which involve the pair, Toni is preparing for the musical in her changing room when Cheryl brings her a rose.

She then kisses Toni on the cheek and tells her how she managed to force her mother and uncle to move out of Thistlehouse.

Toni looks her up and down before saying: “You are so hot right now.”

“Tell me something I don’t know,” comes the classic Cheryl response.

“See you after the show,” she adds, giving her girlfriend a kiss.

And in another scene cut from the musical episode, Cheryl tells Jughead that she has “the world’s hottest girlfriend,” which is just wonderful.

Fans are also treated to a heartbreaking scene in which Toni leaves Cheryl a voicemail as a nun at the Sisters of Quiet Mercy make their way towards Cheryl’s room to tell her she’s been sent there for gay ‘conversion’ therapy.

In the message, Toni tells her: “I’m right there, right by your side. You’re not alone, Cheryl. Not ever again.”

This seems like dramatic irony, with Cheryl trapped and facing abuse at the hands of a sadistic nun, but of course Toni made good on her promise in the very next episode, helping her girlfriend to escape.

In another scene, Toni interrupts an argument between and Veronica and Josie to suggest: “How about you two table this ridiculous rivalry so you can help me find Cheryl?”
