Love Island contestant Josh Mair has denied that he is gay or bisexual on Instagram, after fans speculated about his sexuality on social media.

Mair, who was dumped from the reality TV show on Sunday night, took to Instagram to set the record straight, saying that the internet rumours were “getting a bit out of hand.”

“Right I feel like this topic needs clearing up as it’s getting a bit out of hand now… For everyone wondering no I am not gay or bi sexual, I never have and never will be,” he wrote.

“I have nothing against gay or bi people either before anyone throws that card at me, people can see and date whoever they like. What I will say though is don’t believe everything you read.”

Some fans had suggested that the Birmingham-based bodybuilder and fitness model could be gay on Twitter.

One Twitter user wrote: “As a gay with a pretty solid gaydar, new Josh is definitely on mine .”

Another said: “Is anyone else getting gay vibes from new josh ????”

Love Island is currently in its last week. The finale will be aired on ITV2 on Monday July 30.

The fourth series of the show kicked off in the newly-refurbished Majorcan villa on June 4.

But queer fans have criticised the show for its lack of LGBT+ representation.

There has been no same-sex romance in the villa this summer, despite host Caroline Flack hinting otherwise.

When asked about the possibility of the show having a gay couple, Flack told the Mirror: “I don’t see any reason why not.”

Love Island has also come under fire for not having enough body diversity.

One Twitter user wrote: “I wish

The only same-sex coupling to have taken place on the show was in 2016 between the late Sophie Gradon and Katie Salmon. However, this was short-lived and Gradon soon left the show to reunite with her then-boyfriend Tom Powell.

Gradon passed away in June this year, while the current series was airing.
