Mariah Carey helps gay couple get engaged at concert

Mariah Carey has stolen queer hearts again, after she helped a same-sex couple get engaged on stage.

The singer orchestrated the romantic moment during a concert for her “The Butterfly Returns” residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Carey briefly halted her show and got one of her backing dancers on stage, who was then joined by his boyfriend.

She then left the couple alone, with the man telling his dancer boyfriend that it has been “a really crazy year,” before popping the question.

Carey posted a video on Twitter, captioned: “He said yes!!!”

The video shows the pair kissing and hugging, while the crowd screams in the background.

Carey’s Caesars Palace residency lasts until September, with her playing songs from all of her albums except for Charmbracelet and Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.

Carey is reportedly working on her fifteenth studio album. Her last album, Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse, was released in 2014.

The musician is an outspoken support of LGBT+ rights, and has a big queer following.

In May last year, she paid a moving tribute to Martyn Hett, a fan of her music, who died in the Manchester Arena bombing in Manchester.

The 29-year-old had been due to embark on the trip of a lifetime, holidaying in America for two months, where he had planned to meet-up with other Mariah Carey superfans.

She wrote on Instagram: “Devastated to learn that one of the victims in Manchester was part of the #Lambily.

“RIP Martyn Hett. We will cherish your memory forever.”

In June last year, Carey unveiled her own line of Pride-themed merchandise, including tank tops, hoodies and t-shirts featuring rainbows over images of the singer. Some of the proceeds from the merchandise went to LGBT+ non-governmental media organisation GLAAD.

However, in December, a drag queen was left “upset and embarrassed” after security denied her entry to one of Carey’s concerts.

Seasoned London drag queen Coral DeVille had planned to attend Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” concert at London’s O2 arena.

The drag queen wrote on Twitter: “OMG OMG OMG turned away from 02 arena for being in drag. WHAT?????? I have valid tickets!!!!!! SOMEONE HELP!!!!!”

In a statement, the venue told PinkNews that it was investigating the incident and clarified that it does not have any bans on clothing.
