Keiynan Lonsdale clapped back at troll who told him to ‘stop wearing dresses’

Love, Simon star Keiynan Lonsdale has served a wonderful response to a troll who tried to shame him for wearing dresses and skirts.

Lonsdale, who rose to fame after starring in The Flash as “Kid Flash” Wally West, is now best known for his role in gay teen rom-com Love, Simon as the Oreo-loving Bram.

The film has been internationally well received, prompting a flood of awards and red carpet appearances for the cast.

The 26-year-old actor and singer has made a number of these appearances wearing an array of fabulous dresses and skirts.

But because the internet is often not a kind place to people who defy outdated gender stereotypes, Lonsdale has faced some criticism.

The actor’s freedom to dress however he wants all proved too much for one troll who tweeted him on Wednesday: “dude you gotta stop wearing dresses… Come on!!!!”

Lonsdale quote-tweeted the troll, giving the internet a wonderful lesson in polite yet hilarious clapbacks.

The actor wrote: “Dude you gotta stop tweeting me about it and just go try one on yourself.

“It’s only a piece of clothing and it’s fun, also allows the balls to breathe and therefore will chill ya out.”

Lonsdale’s sassy and informative response was given thousands of likes and retweets, prompting a wave of support from fans of the star.

Some of the responses were variations on memes, including the famed “you’re doing amazing sweetie” Kardashian quote.

Another fan wrote: “We love a polite burn.”

On June 16, Lonsdale and his Love, Simon co-star Nick Robinson were awarded the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss for the heartwarming Ferris wheel kiss between Simon and Bram at the end of the film.

The immensely popular coming out film, which has made more than £45 million worldwide and even convinced one mother to finally accept her daughter as bisexual, picked up the trophy.

It marked the second time in a row that a gay kiss has won the honour, after Moonlight‘s Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome received the award last year.

The awards ceremony, which instituted gender-neutral awards for the first time in 2017, crowned its sixth-ever same-sex pair in the category.

Accepting the Golden Popcorn trophy on stage while wearing a fantastic gender-neutral outfit, Lonsdale told the audience: “I just want to say to every kid: You can live your dreams and wear dresses.

“You can live your dreams and kiss the one that you love, no matter what gender they are. You can live your dreams and you can believe in magic.

“You can live your dreams and you can be yourself.”

Prior to coming out as bisexual in 2017, Lonsdale was an outspoken supporter of LGBT rights.

He took to social media to voice his support for the 2015 Supreme Court ruling that legalised same-sex marriage across the final 14 states in America.

He has also previously spoken out against the partially-repealed anti-LGBT HB2 law in North Carolina, writing on Twitter in 2016: “Wtf North Carolina doing with that Anti-LGBT law? How dumb could you be!”
