This viral post makes an excellent point about bisexual people

It is a truth that should be universally acknowledged: bisexual people are bi, whoever they date.

It’s a fact which still needs to be accepted by society, and one which Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz wrote about passionately this week, making it clear that just because she’s engaged to a man, doesn’t make her sexuality any less valid.

International pop sensation Halsey also went viral explaining the same concept to her followers last year.

The American singer-songwriter, 23, wrote on Twitter: “So if I’m dating a guy I’m straight, and if I date a woman, I’m a lesbian.

“The only way to be a #True bisexual is to date 2 people at once.”

While celebrity endorsements are of course wonderful and welcome, it’s also beautiful to see a post by someone of the non-famous variety go viral – especially when the message is hilarious.

And that’s exactly what 17-year-old Lauren Gundrum did.

She wrote on Facebook: “‘You’re bisexual? But????? You’re dating a guy????’ before responding with a savage comeback.

“OH LOOK I EAT SALAD THAT MUST MEAN I’M A VEGETARIAN RIGHT??? Keep it up chad and I’ll f**k your girlfriend,” she vowed.

Watch out, Chad.

The post attracted around 24,000 shares and 10,000 reacts on Facebook, before being shared on Reddit in the bisexual sub-reddit and gaining more than 4,500 upvotes there.

Bi-erasure is a real issue, both on TV and in the real world.

So it was good to see another bisexual meme go viral in May, playing with the ‘Is this a pigeon?’ format to shine a spotlight on biphobia.

Bi people need every popular piece of representation they can get, considering the host of studies which have shown that they suffer in a variety of ways.

One piece of research last year found that bi people have worse relationships, on average, than straight or homosexual people.

Bi people have consistently been found to have the lowest life satisfaction among LGBT people.

They feel less worthwhile and happy – and much more anxious – than other people too, according to a study from last year.

A study published earlier this year showed that bi teenagers are five times more likely to get pregnant than their straight counterparts.

Bisexual women are also more promiscuous, confused and neurotic than anyone else, according to straight people.

A study published in The Journal of Sex Research earlier this year found that straight people also think bi women are less inclined to be monogamous, less agreeable and less conscientious than people with other sexualities.
