Denise Welch will have her first gay onscreen kiss in a new series which has been described as the “Real Lesbian Housewives of West London.”
The 60-year-old former Coronation Street actress stars in Different For Girls as Mauve, a Triple L (late life lesbian) who leaves her husband after 35 years go marriage.
Back on screens on 6th July, the show which is in its second series, features a group of lesbian and bisexual women whose lives revolve around children, marriage, betrayal and divorce – with some drink, drugs and dancing thrown into the mix.

Set in Chiswick, Different For Girls, reveals what life is like for lesbians in the suburbs, away from sprawling LGBT scenes and nightlife.
Creator Jacquie Lawrence (former Channel 4 Commissioning Editor who was responsible for Dyke TV, Queer Street and Coming Out Night) says: “We decided to produce DFG as an independent web/television series as it gave us the freedom to produce a series without compromises or censorship and stay true to the spirit and daring of the original novel.”
Lawrence said she wanted to, “represent lesbians who live in the suburbs, who are more likely to meet their future partners at the school gates than at a club in Old Compton Street.”

The cast also includes: Guinevere Turner (Go Fish, Preaching to the Perverted, American Pyscho); Rachel Shelley (The L Word and Deep State); Victoria Broom (Marcella), Nimmy March (Death in Paradise, Wallander,); Charlie Hardwick (Emmerdale); Toby Sawyer (Hollyoaks, Coronation Street) and Caroline Whitney Smith (Revenge, NCIS).
The series also stars trans actor and activist Jake Graf in a role as a gay dad bringing up children with Brooke, a lesbian character played by LGBT ally, Rachel Shelley.
And it certainly practices what is preaches, with 80% of the cast identifying as LGBT , while the director, producer and writer identify as lesbian or trans.
DFG has won six awards to date, including best actress awards for Rachel Shelley & Victoria Broom.
