An Instagram account detailing Princess Diana’s most ‘lesbian looks‘ has taken the internet by storm.
The late royal, who was famed for her style and her personability as the “people’s princess,” was revered worldwide until her unfortunate death in a car accident in 1997.
And in the latest bid to pay tribute to the royal, Lauren Pellerano Gomez has created an Instagram which celebrates Diana’s most gay looks.
The account has 1,521 followers to date.
“Lesbians always get the terrible rap for wearing flannel and Birkenstocks. Let’s not forget that flannel in the 90s—Kurt Cobain made every girl drool with that. And Céline adopted the Birkenstock-style line,” the creator told Vanity Fair.
“It’s like, “Hello, can we get some credit?” Historically, gay men are seen as these icons, in terms of creating what style is,” she added.
Although Princess Diana never defined herself as queer, her allyship with the gay community was well-known.
She has been celebrated for her activism and allyship with the queer community.
Diana touched AIDS patients at the peak of the epidemic – in spite of the fact that so many others refused to do so.
The royal also frequented London gay bar the Royal Vauxhall Tavern with Freddie Mercury and Kenny Everett, reported The Independent.
“HIV does not make people dangerous to know, so you can shake their hands and give them a hug,” she famously said at the Children and AIDS Conference in April 1991. “Heaven knows they need it.
“When, that April, she shook the hand of a 32-year-old man with HIV, in front of the cameras, she knew exactly what she was doing,” said Prince Harry in a moving speech as he accepted the Attitude Legacy Award on his mother’s behalf in 2017.
“She was using her position as Princess of Wales, the most famous woman in the world, to challenge everyone to educate themselves, to find their compassion, and to reach out to those who need help instead of pushing them away.”
