Sharknado 6: RuPaul’s Drag Race star Alaska set to appear in final instalment
RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Alaska Thunderfuck is set to star in the sixth and final instalment of the Sharknado franchise, The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time.
As Syfy released the first trailer for the upcoming made-for-TV disaster movie, the All Stars 2 winner took to Twitter to reveal her involvement by linking to a news article by Hornet.
She also tweeted shark emojis for good measure, although if the other movies are anything to go by, there will be a lot more than just a few sea creatures for her to deal with in the film.
“I’m so excited to have been a part of this magnificent piece of high art,” Alaska told the publication. “The social and cultural impact of this film will surely be felt for generations.”
According to the US cable channel on which it will air, The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time will see heroes Fin (Ian Ziering), April (Tara Reid) and Nova (Cassie Scerbo) travel back in time to stop the very first shark-filled tornado from ever happening.
The final chapter will reportedly pick up right where its predecessor left off; with a lone Fin wandering Earth following the planet’s destruction. No wonder he wants to go back and change the course of events in recent history, eh?
Director Anthony C Ferrante, who helmed the original and all of its follow-ups, will return to round out the series. He’ll work from a script penned by Sharknado 5: Global Swarming screenwriter Scotty Mullen.
The film is set to reach small screens on August 19 2018 and will also star La Toya Jackson, Tori Spelling and Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Having made their debut in 2013, the Sharknado films have regularly been described as so bad, they’re almost good.
The first outing – which introduced the concept of sharks wreaking havoc on mainland Los Angeles after being lifted out of the ocean by apocalyptic weather – was met with surprisingly positive reviews, with many calling its absurd premise and questionable CGI effects ‘hilarious,’ ‘immersive’ and ‘bloody good fun’ on Rotten Tomatoes.
Since then, the films have seen ridiculous things like Reid’s character giving birth inside a shark and later, becoming a cyborg. Meanwhile, Ziering’s character has ridden a shark through a tornado and chainsawed his way out of the belly of one.
There have even been a few moments in space! But fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
What exactly Alaska will be getting up to in The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time remains a mystery but if she’s going to end up being killed in some grisly, campy way, we can only hope she’ll let out one last ‘byeeeee’ before she bites the dust… or the sharks bite her, more accurately.
The Sharknado franchise has seen a whole host of celebrities come up against the finned fiends. Other famous faces that have featured throughout the series include actors Frankie Muniz and Gary Busey, Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin, magicians Penn and Teller, reality star Kelly Osbourne, Olympic diver Tom Daley, television hosts Michael Strahan and Kelly Ripa and fellow Drag Race alum Derrick Berry.
Even Hulk alum Lou Ferrigno and David Hasselhoff have starred.
In fact, the latter appeared in a few instalments, playing Ziering’s onscreen father Gilbert Grayson Shepard.
