A man says he was barraged with homophobic abuse in a takeaway restaurant as he was violently beaten by teenagers.

The man, identified as Jason, was attacked on Sunday (May 27) after going out for the evening in the city centre.

The 24-year-old explained that he and a friend had headed to a local takeaway to get food – when they were set upon by a group of teenagers.

He told the Hull Daily Mail: “There was homophobic abuse and bad language. The next thing I see is one of my friends being knocked to the floor. He had been punched.”

Jason attempted to defend his friend, but was knocked out as he was pummelled by the attackers.

The victim says he was later verbally abused from a passing car as he was reporting the crime to police, with the person shouting: “You f**king gay faggot! Next time I see you, you’re dead!”

Jason did not seek medical attention until the next day – when he was surprised to learn about the extent of his injuries.

He told the newspaper: “I had to go for a CT scan and the doctor came back saying I’d broken my nose and my sinuses are blocked.

The facial surgeon then said I’d broken my eye socket, fractured my cheek bone, had a broken jaw and had swelling in my face.

“The doctor said my jaw needs realigning and I might need surgery on my eye socket.”

Anyone with information about the attack should contact Humberside Police.
