A friend of Chelsea Manning has declared that she is safe after she wrote tweets in which she appeared to be contemplating suicide.

Manning, who was incarcerated for seven years when she leaked classified data to WikiLeaks, wrote that she was “not really cut out for this world” at 4am on Monday on Twitter.

“I’m sorry I let you all down – I’m not really cut out for this world – I tried adapting to this world out here but I failed you – I couldn’t do this anymore – I can take people I know hating me but not my own friends – I tried and I’m sorry about my failure,” she wrote in a tweet.
