13 Reasons Why’s Brandon Flynn pays tribute to ‘angel’ partner Sam Smith on his birthday

Brandon Flynn might be in a different timezone to his boyfriend Sam Smith, but that didn’t stop him wishing the singer a happy birthday in a romantic Instagram post.

Smith, who is currently finishing off the European leg of his The Thrill of It All Tour, turned 26 on Saturday.

And although 13 Reasons Why actor Flynn couldn’t join the star, he paid tribute to his “angel” who is “doing it with grace.”

“He’s in a different time zone and it’s hit his birthday! Just finishing his European leg of his tour, at 26 he’s accomplished so much,” wrote the actor in the heartwarming post.

“He’s an angel! He makes me so fucking happy and I hope everyone goes and shares all the birthday love, it ain’t easy getting old but he’s doing it with grace thank you for everything, Samuel! Happy 26, here’s to another amazing year of life!”

Smith posted that he hoped to “welcome the second quarter” of his life “in style.”

“Thank you to everyone for making my birthday so special,” the post read.

“What a royal birthday it was. I hope everyone had the best day yesterday celebrating the prince and the princess!! I love you all so much. Switching off for a few days. Time to welcome in the second quarter in style.”

Rumour has it that the pair made their relationship official in October 2017.

The pair were seen strolling in New York arm in arm, which led a fan on Instagram to post pictures of the couple looking loved-up.

In February graphic pictures of the pair kissing in New York City hit the headlines.

One commentator remarked the lip-locking looked like Smith’s “first ever kiss,” and the tweet went viral.

Smith laughed off the criticism, saying that the kissing was simply “a joke.”

It was a joke,” he told BBC Radio 1.

“As a joke we were attacking each other!”

The “Stay With Me” singer added: “We were just waiting outside the shop while my sister got cigarettes. I was just joking.

“I was literally licking his eyeballs. It’s horrendous [the photos]. I’m going to have to do something crazy to top it.”

Flynn came out as gay in an impassioned response to Australia’s ‘no’ to same-sex marriage campaign.

The Australian actor responded to a message he saw written in the sky against legalising equal marriage in the country.

“Thank you for raising money and hiring a plane to write your lack of support amongst the clouds,” he wrote.

“I hope your hate and lack of understanding fades, just like those words will.”
