Pair jailed for 15 years over Grindr date rapes

Two men in Scotland have been jailed for a total of 15 years after raping and attacking two men they met through gay dating app Grindr.

Mohammed Khan and a 17-year-old from Slovakia, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, were convicted of raping and attacking the two men last month.

The sentencing was deferred to allow the High Court in Edinburgh to obtain reports about their character.

Khan received a seven year prison sentence, while the 17-year-old was handed eight years in detention, reports STV.

The pair, who described themselves as ‘two discreet lads’ on the dating app, raped two men in two separate incidents in Glasgow in September 2017, reported The BBC.

After Khan performed a consensual sex act on one man, the teenager then pulled the man’s trousers down and raped him.

In another event, a 20-year-old university student was threatened with force if he did not perform a sex act on Khan.

Khan and the 17-year-old will be added to the sex offenders’ register.

Another two men were also tried in the court for robbing and attacking men alongside Khan and the teenager in a separate incident.

The four of them were charged for previously attacking and robbing a man after luring him to an industrial estate.

According to STV, judge Lord Uist said the authorities would monitor both men for two years after their release.

The court heard how Khan had described his crimes to a social worker as “just a bit of fun.”

Delivering the sentence, Uist said: “The victim in each of these charges was a homosexual man who was targeted for that and no doubt in the hope that he would report any crime against him to the police.

“You Mohammed Khan are now almost 29 years old. You described these crimes to the social worker who reported on you to this court as ‘just a bit of fun’.

“You were mature enough at the time to know exactly what you were doing.”

“They were trying to get me down, fighting and battering me. I was kind of in a dead end and the three of them were coming and just whacking us with poles and traffic cones,” said the victim of the crime.

“They were just bouncing off my back and head and I was trying to avoid them and dodging about. The young Slovakian boy had a big 2×2 piece of wood with a few nails on it.

“He hit me on my arm and smashed my elbow. I had to have an operation and get a steel plate put in it.”

The pair were reprimanded in custody until the sentencing took place.
