Pulse shooting survivor claims Jesus cured him of homosexual ‘perversion’

A survivor of the Pulse gay nightclub shooting is promoting a gay ‘cure’ event.
Luis Ruiz was injured in the June 2016 attack on the Pulse nightclub in Orlando that left 49 people, including several of his friends, dead.
Many of the survivors have since joined forces with the survivors of the nearby Parkland school shooting in order to campaign for gun control.
But Ruiz, who underwent a religious conversion in the wake of the tragedy, is now promoting an event that advocates ‘curing’ homosexuality.
Ruiz is promoting the Freedom March, a fundamentalist Christian event that promotes the idea people can gain “freedom from homosexual/transgender lifestyles by the grace and power of Jesus Christ.”
Posts to the page of the May 5 event advocates the belief that “homosexuals can change” and promotes the stories of “former homosexuals” who claim to have been cured.
Promoting the event, Ruiz wrote: “I should of been of number 50
“Going through old pictures of the night of Pulse a memory were my struggles of perversion, heavy drinking to drown out everything and having promiscuous sex that led to HIV my struggles were real!
“The enemy had its grip and now God has taken me from that moment and has given me Christ Jesus I’ve grown to know his love in a deeper level.
“2 out of the 49 were my close friends and are no longer with us. They lost their life that night.
“I should have been number 50 but now I have the chance to live in relationship and not religion – not just loving Christ but being in love with Christ and sharing His love. I know who I am and I am not defined with who the enemy says I use to be – but who Christ Jesus says I am.”
He added: “I am Marching May 5th of 2018 because I am free.
“FREE from: REJECTION – DEPRESSION – DEALTH – SUICIDE – INDENTY.THEFT IN CHRITS – LIES – CHEATING – PORNOGRAPHY – LUST – SEXUAL PERVERSION – DRUGS AND SO MANY MORE”
“Come join us in Washington DC for this fight that has already been won at the cross for our freedom.”
He added: “It’s not a GAY to STRAIGHT thing but a LOST TO SAVE thing.”
Previous articles suggest that Ruiz had become involved with the Catholic Church in the wake of the Pulse shooting.
The practice of gay ‘cure’ therapy has been disavowed by nearly every major medical and psychological authority, but is still advocated by fringe religious groups.
Connecticut, California, Nevada, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, Oregon, Illinois, Vermont, New Mexico, Rhode Island, and Washington all have laws protecting youth from gay ‘cure’ therapy, while bills are pending in a string of other states.
The California Assembly recently greenlit a more stringent bill that would implement consumer fraud convictions for gay ‘cure’ practitioners.
