Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears were in a love triangle, she reveals on Carpool Karaoke

Christina Aguilera has revealed that she was in a love triangle with Britney Spears.

Speaking to Late Late Show host James Corden during Carpool Karaoke, the singer said that the stars – both long-time LGBT advocates – once competed for the attention of Justin Timberlake.

The three singers were all part of the Disney Channel’s All-New Mickey Mouse Club from 1993 to 1994, and according to Aguilera, there was an on-set love triangle between the teenagers.

Corden asked: “Even then, at that age, could you find yourself getting lost in Ryan Gosling’s eyes?”

The “Dirrty” singer responded: “I think there were crushes, but I wasn’t on the train.”

“What train were you on?” asked Corden, not letting her off the hook. “Were you on the Timberlake train?”

Aguilera laughed, and then, flustered, said: “I think, well there was like a me and Britney – well, there was a thing back then.

“Oh my god, you’re going in!”

After a little more encouragement from Corden, she admitted her crush, saying: “It was a good time, and – he had swag. Even back then, he had swag.”

She also said that as far as she could tell, Spears also had a crush on Gosling at the time.

Aguilera, a long-time LGBT advocate, had her song “Beautiful” voted the most empowering song of the ’00s for LGBT people.

The award for the track, which was written by lesbian songwriter and producer Linda Perry, “delighted” Christina, who said that “my gay fan base is so important to me and this continues my special relationship.”

In 2010, as part of a Stonewall campaign against homophobic bullying, she said: “I know just how important it is to feel like you can be yourself – in your career and in your everyday life.

“For anyone who feels like an outsider, I want to say: Don’t let the bullies win.

“Be yourself – and don’t let words get you down. It gets better today. With your help, Stonewall can make it happen.”

After her appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race as a guest judge earlier this season, she opened up on spin-off show Untucked, revealing that one of her most famous hits was about discovering an ex-boyfriend was gay.

Her 2002 song “Infatuation” was prompted by the man coming out, she said.

The song, from her Stripped album, is about forbidden love and an obsession which grows for a “Latin lover.”

And it turns out that man — who Aguilera dated, but did not name on the show — was actually gay.

“It was heartbreaking because I found out he played for your team, not mine,” Aguilera, 37, explained.

“He’s gonna see this, he’s gonna be mad!” competing queen Vanessa Vanjie Mateo noted.

“I hope so, girl!” Aguilera joked in return.
