Riverdale will have a bisexual sex scene soon, show’s writer reveals

Twitter user hits out at lack of gay characters in popular media

A Riverdale writer has revealed that the show’s first bisexual couple is set to go beyond kissing – and soon.

Madelaine Petsch’s Cheryl Blossom came out as bisexual last month.

Petsch, who plays Cheryl Blossom on the dark CW and Netflix show about Archie Comics characters, revealed in February that Cheryl was “definitely interested in both women and men.”

And in an emotional scene with prominent bisexual lighting, Cheryl opened up about her sexuality to Toni Topaz, who also came out as bi earlier this season.

She then nearly kissed Toni – played by her real-life friend and co-star Vanessa Morgan – in the next episode, before being sent to undergo gay ‘cure’ therapy.

Toni broke her out of the creepy Sisters of Quiet Mercy nunnery in the very next episode – but not after the couple enjoyed a first proper kiss, which Petsch has admitted was “very nerve-racking.”

And now, Riverdale writer Brian E. Paterson has revealed that fans of Choni – the couple’s ship name – will be able to enjoy the bisexual characters getting even more intimate.

On Sunday, he tweeted: “Don’t fret, Choni fans — there is some really good stuff coming in our final few episodes. Hang in there. #Riverdale”

One fan, clearly starved of representation of bisexual and all-female relationships, replied: “Omg king fav this if we get a Choni kiss in one of the next few episodes legend .”

But Paterson had something better for Choni fans to look forward to in the last four episodes of season two.

He responded: “Lol. We’ve got stuff on tap better than just kisses.”

Fans were pretty excited by this revelation from Paterson, who has a writing credit for 10 episodes of the show.

“KING THANK YOU LEGEND,” replied the Choni stan who had prompted Paterson’s amazing disclosure.

And there were some excellent GIF-based responses.

Cheryl and Toni were interrupted when they tried to kiss during a sleepover at the Blossom house earlier this season, but their attempts to get intimate will be made easier by Cheryl’s new living situation.

Speaking on Entertainment Tonight, Petsch revealed that – as fans have grown to suspect – Cheryl has been living with Toni and wearing her clothes ever since being broken out of the nunnery.

Earlier this month, Petsch opened up about kissing her real-life close friend Morgan.

Speaking to Nylon magazine, the 23-year-old actress said that the kiss was an anxious moment for both of them.

“It was very nerve-racking, because we wanted to make sure we did it with care and grace,” she said.

“But I think the responses have been overwhelmingly positive.”

The star also hailed the writers of the show for introducing a bisexual couple.

Toni and Cheryl are among several Netflix characters to reveal their bisexuality in the past year, including Darryl Whitefeather on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Adam on Jane The Virgin.
