Gus Kenworthy has been living the dream travelling the world competing as an openly-gay athlete and winning a whole host of fans along the way.

But while glory at the Winter Olympics was satisfying, nothing could compare to his latest accomplishment.

The Olympian has revealed he is to fulfil a dream he has held for years: to guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The skier confessed that the drag reality competition is his favourite show.

He told Gay Times: “I’m so excited about that. It’s a dream come true.”

The appearance is expected to be in Season 11 as the full line-up for Season 10, which is currently airing, is already confirmed.

While in Pyongyang for the Winter Olympics he was filmed kissing his boyfriend on live TV.

It was just a peck on the lips, but the fact that it took place on NBC, live on primetime network TV, in front of tens of millions internationally, made it historic.

Unsurprisingly some reacted negatively to the public show of same-sex affection.

Speaking to the magazine about being an openly gay athlete, he said: “I didn’t know it was being filmed but some people were like, ‘Why are you shoving it in our faces?’

“We’re not doing that at all, we’re just existing. If a hockey player kissed his wife after a game there’d be no comments about it or it’d be, ‘Such a cute moment.’

“But because we’re two guys, while a lot of people were saying ‘That was a cute moment,’ or ‘That was an important moment.’ There were others going, ‘We don’t need to see that.’”

Speaking on the Today show following the backlash, the former Olympic silver medallist condemned objections to him kissing his partner.

“My entire life, in movies and commercials, in public… you see straight, heterosexual love, and that’s completely fine because it’s ‘normal.'”

So, he said, “us also showing the same type of affection isn’t shoving it in your face.”

Kenworthy also joked that fellow US Olympian Adam Rippon had objected to the kiss – for different reasons.

“He was mostly jealous,” said the skier.

Kenworthy came out in 2015, the year after the last Winter Olympics, in Sochi, Russia, so this was his first Olympics as an out gay man.
