Sally Field’s son Sam Greisman admits he was ‘shy’ to meet Adam Rippon

Sally Field’s efforts all paid off when her son Sam Greisman finally met gay Olympian and 2018 icon Adam Rippon.

Figure skater Rippon had a spectacular Winter Olympics – becoming, as he put it, “America’s sweetheart.”

His amazing Olympic performance and hilarious media appearances since returning to the US have caused a lot of crushes, including one from the son of Sally Field, Sam Greisman.

30-year-old director Greisman has had a crush on Rippon, who secured a bronze medal for Team USA and a place in his viewers’ hearts during his time at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

As well as telling his fans about his crush, Greisman made the rookie mistake of telling his mother, double-Oscar-winning actress Sally Field.

Field then took it on herself to share the news with the whole world, trying to set her son up by tweeting Rippon.

Rippon responded at the time: “Sam, your mum – I admire her. And I’m sure one day we’re going to meet! So thanks, mum.”

Exciting fans of the pair everywhere, Rippon and Greisman met as Rippon was honoured by the Human Rights Campaign, who gave the Olympian a visibility award.

Now he has admitted what went down after the pair finally met.

He told the The Scott McGlynn Show podcast: “I was very shy, and a little embarrassed but he’s a very cool nice guy. It was totally fine!”

But fans hoping for a romance may be disappointed.

Greisman added: “Adam’s very busy – he hasn’t got time to be dating or doing anything like that.

“He’s conquering the world right now…”

Greisman later took to Twitter to post a photo of him and Rippon at the event, captioning it “thanks, mom.”

Greisman has been open about his admiration of Rippon on Twitter, riffing on the “Nothing but respect for MY president” meme to tell followers: “Nothing but respect for my Olympic prince.”

Greisman also spoke about how meaningful it was for him to see Rippon be openly and proudly gay at the Olympics, in front of the world.

“I hate being earnest but an openly, ‘non-passing’, sassy, beautiful gay 20-something daring America not to love him and becoming the sweetheart of the Olympic Games is very moving to me,” he wrote.
