Sam Smith has revealed the truth behind some very strange photos of him kissing his 13 Reasons Why boyfriend Brandon Flynn.

The pair were pictured snogging enthusiastically on a night out in London’s Soho earlier this year.

The snaps went viral after being shared on Twitter, with many noting that his sister was awkwardly looking away while the two guys made out.

Now he has explained what was going on – and it turns out they were joking all along. Apparently.

Appearing on BBC Radio One he said: “It was a joke,” he said. “As a joke we were attacking each other!”

The Stay With Me singer added: “We were just waiting outside the shop while my sister got cigarettes. I was just joking.

He added: “I was literally liking his eyeballs. It’s horrendous [the photos]. I’m going to have to do something crazy to top it.”

Shortly after Flynn came out, Sam Smith sent the internet into a tailspin after he was pictured kissing the star.

The multi-platinum selling artist had denied dating anyone just weeks before the photograph, which showed them kissing in New York City, was taken.

The pair seemed to made their relationship official late in December 2017.

The 25-year-old British singer then opened up about his new-found romance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

He revealed he had been unlucky in love throughout writing his new album The Thrill of It All.

When asked if he was single, Smith gushed: “No I’m not, which is crazy!
