Gaylord McDowell charged with attempted murder over homophobic stabbing
A Tennessee man named Gaylord McDowell faces an attempted murder charge over alleged anti-gay stabbing.
The incident took place in Memphis, Tennessee last month.
Police say that the suspect, Gaylord McDowell, walked up to a woman at a bus stop and stabbed her in the breast with a knife.
A bus driver called the police, but the suspect had already fled the scene.
The victim was rushed to hospital after the attack and required 10 stitches.
McDowell was arrested this week after he was spotted by the same bus driver.
According to WREG, McDowell said: “I already know what they got me for, for that girl.”
He also told officers he believed the victim to be gay and said that “he does not like gay people”.
Officers found a knife on him.
He was charged with attempted second-degree murder.
