American footballer says he was asked ‘Do you like men?’ by major NFL team

An NFL hopeful has said he was asked whether his mother is a prostitute and if he is gay during interviews for prospective teams.
The prospect said the questions were “crazy”, and said that they were psychological.
The former Louisiana State University (LSU) running back, Derrius Guice, said he was asked the questions by teams in order to gauge his reaction.

“It was pretty crazy,” Guice said, speaking to SiriusXM NFL show Late Hits.
“Some people are really trying to get in your head and test your reaction. … I go in one room, and a team will ask me do I like men, just to see my reaction. I go in another room, they’ll try to bring up one of my family members or something and tell me, ‘Hey, I heard your mom sells herself. How do you feel about that?’”

Guice added that prospects should “come in prepared to interviews.
“It went exactly how everyone told me it would be,” Guice said. “It’s exhausting. … It was a great experience. You’re being watched and tested the whole time.”
This is by no means the first time an NFL team has asked such questions.

Another NFL hopeful back in 2016 told of being asked if he likes men as the first question in an interview for a prospective team.
A coach with the Atlanta Falcons asked Ohio State, now New York Giants cornerback, Eli Apple if was gay during an interview, the player said.
The NFL has commented on the controversy in the past, saying that coaches who ask such question could be subject to disciplinary procedure but did not specify the limits of the action taken.

Apple told Comcast SportsNet that the invasive question was asked first as soon as he entered the room.
“The Falcons coach, one of the coaches, was like, ‘So do you like men?'” Apple said
“It was like the first thing he asked me. It was weird. I was just like, ‘No.’ He was like, ‘If you’re going to come to Atlanta, sometimes that’s how it is around here. You’re going to have to get used to it … I guess he was joking, but they just ask most of these questions to see how you’re going to react.”
