Troye Sivan wishes he played Elio in Call Me By Your Name
Australian film and music star Troye Sivan has said he would like to have played Elio Perlman in the gay romance film ‘Call Me By Your Name’.
The star, who appeared in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’, and the ‘Spud’ trilogy of films said he wished he could have played the character, taken by Timothée Chalamet, on the big screen.
Chalamet played the role opposite Armie Hammer who took up the role of Oliver in the film.
Set in Northern Italy in 1983, the film tells the story of a romance between the 17-year-old Elio and his father’s 24-year-old assistant, Oliver, over the course of a summer.
And in a new interview with PopCrush, Silvan says he would “loved” to have played the 17-year-old in the film.
“I think that it 100 percent was made for Timothée Chalamet, but I would have at least auditioned for Call Me By Your Name. That would’ve been fun to have a go at that. It was such a beautiful book and movie,” he tells PopCrush.
He goes on to say that the film was one of few that he has found relatable.
“I really feel like that was the first time, pretty much ever, that I’ve looked at a character and been like, ‘I 100 percent relate to that person’. Like every single thing, even down to his body type and the way that he looks,” he adds.
“It’s so strange. I look at his body, and I’m like, ‘That’s my body.’ Like skinny, small little nipples, pale. Like everything down to the nipples, it’s me.”
Sivan is also releasing new music this year with an album following on from his 2015 critically acclaimed hit ‘Blue Neighbourhood’, including singles ‘Youth’ ‘Take Me Down’ and ‘Wild’.
Singles from his upcoming albums ‘My My My’ and ‘The Good Side’ have proven hits with his fans.
As well as his music, Sivan has also landed a job as the face of Valentino’s spring menswear campaign.
He was also cast alongside Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe in ‘Boy Erased’.
Sivan earlier this month faced a minor backlash online after he was pictured allegedly dumping flowers from a fan in a bin.

The musician was reportedly given the flowers at a meet and greet event, but the fan was disheartened when a photo later surfaced showing Sivan apparently throwing out the bouquet.
But he received heavy praise last year when he continued to celebrate LGBT love in his video for the song ‘Heaven’.
Sivan may get his change to play Elio, as last month the film’s director spoke about plans for a sequel – and Elio and Oliver will both be back.
The Golden Globe-nominated film ‘Call Me By Your Name’ looks set to get its own series of films telling the story after the end of the plot.
