Roxane Gay volunteers to write DC Comics’ Batgirl film after Joss Whedon pulls out

Roxane Gay has offered to write DC Comics’ Batgirl film after Joss Whedon pulled out of the role.
Whedon announced earlier this week (22 February) that he would no longer be working on the film because he could not come up with a story for it.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, The Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator said that the project was great but that he just could not do it.
He said: “Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story.

“I’m grateful to Geoff [Johns] and [Warners Picture Group president] Toby [Emmerich] and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I… uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed’?”
In light of the news, Gay took to Twitter and told DC that she would be happy to write the film.
“Hey @DCComics I can write your Batgirl movie, no prob,” she said.
Michele Wells, Vice President of Warner Brothers and DC Comics, responded to Gay urging Gay to contact her if she was “serious”.
“Yes I am serious. I will email you,” Gay responded.

The thread has since gone quiet but fans are overjoyed at the prospect that Gay might get onboard with the film.
“I am already in line to buy tickets for this movie,” one person wrote.
Another added: ” got a chill reading this and I don’t even like DC. If they know what’s good for them, they’ll take you up in this offer.”
A third quipped: “You’re gonna write it AND be Batgirl??”
It won’t be the author’s first comic, as she wrote the World of Wakanda comic for Marvel, the comic book that Black Panther was based on.
