Aaron Carter has opened up about his plans for a family after recovering from a tumultuous 2017.

The bisexual star says he was shocked into action last year when he realised his weight was the same as popstar Michael Jackson on his death bed.

Carter feared he was on the brink of death after his weight plummeted to just 115 pounds.

Speaking to People magazine, he opened up about his recovery after a stint in a treatment facility.

“I looked forward to taking time to heal for myself, especially after last year and going to a treatment center,” he said.

“It’s really imperative that I make myself the main focus.”

He came out as bisexual after splitting from his girlfriend and was widely praised for coming out.

“I didn’t feel any scrutiny,” he told the magazine. “I was really open and honest about my attraction to men and women, and I got a lot of support from it.

“Whether people believe it or not, I could [not] care less. It’s my personal life, not yours. It belongs to me.”

The brother of Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter also now wants to start a family.

“I’m going to be a good father. I know it. I want lots of kids, lots of stability, lots of happiness and laughter and learning and having fun. It’s going to be good.”

He adds: “I want to have girls. Maybe it’s because of all my sisters and being a mama’s boy.”

Carter checked into a rehab centre in a desperate bid to get his health back last year.

“Look at my transformation, in months … My health is very important. Health is very important for everybody, and I was so scared.”

Explaining the process he said at the time: “I struggled from an eating disorder, so I had seven ulcers. I was, like, 115 pounds, super malnourished.

“It was tough, you know, it was tough a bit on myself, but the Alo House where I went was incredible.

“They helped figure it out for me what was going on with me, and there are other things going on, like, I suffer from PTSD.

“I have a lot of trauma from my past and a lot of loss, so that’s something I have to deal with on a daily basis.

“I did detox and through that detox, I gained, like, two pounds every day. Twenty-eight percent of body weight I gained.

“I took a break, and figured out what was going on in my mind, and the things that were really festering up and bothering me. I’m still figuring those things out.”

The singer said he is finally ready to have a relationship with a man.

The musician, who came out as bisexual in 2017, revealed on the LGBTQ&A podcast that he was beginning to embrace his sexuality after a difficult coming out period.

However, he admitted that he was still dealing with some confusion as being part of the community still feels “new”.

“I’m just still confused about it… about bisexuality.

“I definitely embrace my bisexuality and, you know, it’s still new to me.

“I just started talking about it, really. I have my confusions and I’m still learning about the community.

“Who know what the future has to bring, whether it’s a relationship with a guy, I don’t have a problem with that.

“It’s something that I’ve already thought about for the album after this one. It’s already been thought through.”
