Gay Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy has shown off his sass and class with an epic clapback to a homophobic Twitter troll.

The freestyle skier is one of a host of openly LGBT athletes to compete in this year’s Winter Olympics in South Korea.

Earlier this week Kenworthy tweeted about the iconic televised kiss between him and his boyfriend Matt Wilkas after his final event.

“Didn’t realise this moment was being filmed but I’m so happy that it was. My childhood self would never have dreamed of seeing a gay kiss on TV at the Olympics,” he wrote.

“For the first time ever a kid is watching at home can. Love is love is love.”

It may have been just a peck on the lips, but the fact that it took place on NBC, live on primetime network TV, in front of tens of millions internationally, made it historic.

Sadly, not everyone was as supportive of Kenworthy’s touching moment and many trolls hit out at him for daring to be openly affectionate with his partner.

One Twitter troll replied to Kenworthy’s celebratory tweet by asking what would happen to the human race if people can marry people of the same gender.

The troll wrote: “Question is, if men marry men and women marry women, who will produce children in this world?”

As LGBT people have existed for thousands of years and humanity has yet to die out, it’s fairly safe to say that this is a ridiculous argument.

While the troll in question appears to be a parody account, it’s a message that is broadly accepted amongst certain people and is brought up time and time again in an attempt to discredit LGBT parents.

Kenworthy clapped back to the troll in just three words: “hopefully not you.”

Fans of the skier loved his short (and shady) response to the troll.

Hundreds of people replied to Kenworthy with a variety of gifs, all on the same theme of ‘dammmnnn’.

Other fans responded with some very relatable tweets about choosing dogs over children anyway.

One Twitter user wrote: “Who needs kids when you can have dogs?”

Other users pointed out the high demand for adoptive parents across the world, and the fact that transgender people can sometimes have children with their same-gender partner.

Gus Kenworthy has also shown his sense of humour over the course of the games in Pyeongchang.

The out freestyle skier, who is on the US Winter Olympic team, has been one of the Olympians to speak out against the head of the US Olympic Delegation, Vice President Mike Pence.

Last week Kenworthy tweeted that he had broken his thumb during training, though he quickly saw an upside to his injury – not having to shake Mike Pence’s hand.

He wrote: “Broke my thumb yesterday in practice. It won’t stop me from competing (obvi) but it does prevent me from shaking Pence’s hand so… Silver linings!

“Will be giving my teammates (and literally everyone else) an enthusiastic ‘thumbs up!’ of encouragement the rest of the trip.”
