Sam Smith has revealed the truth about rumours he will be performing at the royal wedding.

The Oscar winner had previously mooted that he would be starring at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s special day.

The happy couple, who have been dating since July 2016, are set to tie the knot in a royal wedding at Windsor Castle later this year.

Everyone from the Queen and Prince Philip, to Prince Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton have sent their congratulations to the couple.

Meanwhile the Stay With Me singer told The Sun: “I’m obsessed. I want to sing at the wedding. Oh my God I’d love to, it would be a dream.”

He added: “I’d have to wear a dress and a crown though.”

As the big day draws closer Sam has revealed the truth about what’s set to happen.

“I don’t know. I was joking ages ago when I said I’d love to, but I don’t know,” he coyly told KIIS FM.

“I don’t think it would be for me, but I’d love to go and like look at the dress,” he added.

Speaking more frankly later, he admitted: “That would be amazing, but no, that’s definitely not happening.”

“I won’t be in the UK for the wedding [because] it’s my birthday, I’m gonna be on tour, but I love the weddings,” he added.

In 2017 he even turned up to a same-sex wedding to perform as a surprise, which he confessed was the first gay nuptials he had attended.

Announcing details of the special day, Kensington Palace revealed the couple will wed in May 19 2018.

The short window of just six months isn’t long to get all the arrangements together – not to mention the small matter of US actress Meghan becoming a British citizen.
