Charmed TV reboot will feature a lesbian character

Your favourite witch show Charmed is returning to television, and this time it will include a lesbian sister.

The reboot, which is being produced by the network the CW, will follow three sisters – one of whom will be a lesbian.

The network has dubbed it as “fierce, funny and feminist”.

The feminist aspect will be driven by Mel, a “strong-willed feminist lesbian” with a police detective girlfriend, Soo Jin.

Her power is being able to freeze time.

The middle sister is entailed in a plot in which she is involved in a tragic addict that results in her pushing away her loved ones, including her girlfriend and her sister Madison.

Madison is younger than Mel, and the complete opposite. The preppy sorority athlete has the desire to fit in – but this is ruined for her when she learns she is a witch who can read people’s thoughts.

Macy is the third in the trio. The late 20s science nerd has a PhD in quantum physics.

Her power is telekinesis, which she discovers after moving to Michigan.

In a plot twist, Macy does not know for certain but believes she is the sister of the other two women.

Some fans have celebrated the decision to reboot the series and the effort that the network is going to in order to make sure the case is diverse.

“THE MIDDLE CHARMED SISTER IS A LESBIAN WITH AN ASIAN GIRLFRIEND. BLESS,” one person wrote on Twitter.

Another added: “Charmed fans: the reboot can’t possibly be better at feminism??? Reboot: ya so we’re auditioning all ethnicities for the sisters, also one of them is a lesbian with a Korean-American girlfriend.”

However, some were more cynical about the idea and felt that the CW wouldn’t do the character justice.

Someone explained: “Imagine thinking that an LGBT character is a twist… Anyways her character is already doomed, @TheCW can’t write decent lesbian characters without falling in every lesbian tropes possible… She is just here to attract good press and that’s it. Keep it, no reboot!”

“Not sure how I feel about the reboot in general… But it was total bullshit that a series set in San Francisco, and lasting 8 seasons, NEVER had any LGBTQ+ inclusion at all,” another said.

A third wrote: “It’s not ‘LGBT’ representation, it’s lesbian representation. Trans people, once again aren’t exactly included, are they? Also, our identities aren’t a ‘twist’. We aren’t shocking, we just exist.”

The reboot has been slammed by fans and past actors for deviating from the original series.

Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper Halliwell in the show, has slammed it on Twitter.

She claimed that the reboot had “nothing to do with our legacy”.

“It’s official. They really have never watched it,” she wrote.
